When my mother decided she needed to move out of her house, we were pleasantly surprised in the terrific guidance and help we received from Commonwealth Assisted Living. Every situation and all our questions were handled with so much interest and concern. The staff is so helpful and friendly that we had a wonderful experience in this move. Commonwealth Assisted Living at Radford is the “BEST!” From the very welcoming and beautiful entrance coupled with the very friendly and always smiling staff – my 92 year old mother has adjusted to her new home, staff and residents almost immediately. Because of her shyness, our family never expected her to gain such confidence to feel so comfortable and safe and to join in on all the wonderful activities that are offered. Way to far away. Staff friendly over the phone.
I like that they are specially trained for dementia and memory care. My loved one says next to being home he is happy there. I would like to see more staff, specifically the caregiver staff, it can take a while for someone to get to the residents, when they ring the bell. The food is not that good and the portions are pretty small. Communication between staff might be a little lacking. He is up going to activities, now and feeding himself and doing better than he has been in months.
As a resident of independent living the facilities were satisfactory and adequately maintained. If staff assistance was needed after the initial sales period, good luck. No returned calls, no guidelines or communication when moving out. They apparently find it acceptable to hold onto lease deposit and other monies owed for several months following move out with no communication as to why. If doing this to their independent renters, I shudder to think what predatory practices are in place with dependent renters.

They always kept the reception area spotless and the nursing home part, but the locked part where my husband was disgusting. I guess if you have dementia you don't need to live in a clean area. It was awful. He was not taken care of at all. He always had wet/dirty clothes and feet. Lost a ton of weight.
