We absolutely loved our stay at Inn at 1252 Monterey. It's obvious the property is very well cared for and it looks absolutely adorable at night with all the plants and lights. Whoever their gardener is - they're doing a great job! We'd texted with the hotel on several things and loved how fast and helpful the responses were. The team members were also very welcoming and helpful in-person. We chose this hotel based on weighing the value and good reviews and it didn't disappoint.

For a 2-star motel it met our expectations for the most part. The biggest downer was the early check-in fee. We arrived 1.5 h before check-in, and were offered a room, but for a $25 fee. In the hindsight, we should have declined given how much we paid for the actual room, but we were tired. I’ve never had a motel or a hotel charge for an early check-in when room is ready. For being only a 2 star this inn over does itself. The rooms are very nice and clean. The bathrooms have a very nice, modern shower and sink. We had a king bed and our room was very big for the price. We actually hadn't planned staying here originally, but our other hotel was disgusting so we checked put early and frantically called all around Monterey to find a place day of. Everything in the room was very clean which I really appreciated. However, the towels had a very strong bleach smell, and when I wiped the floor after spilling some water, there was also a strong odor and heavy foam from the cleaning products. I would highly recommend using vinegar instead of harsh chemicals for cleaning towels and floors. Vinegar would be a much gentler and healthier option.

We were in itially shown a downstairs room which was not acceptable to us. Maybe the result of a late Saturday arrival, with the front desk being manned by an inexperienced staffer. The alternative that was offered was superior, and provided us with a nice base for our 4 day trip. The bathroom was large, spotless, with a shower that was responsive and easy to control the water temperature. A 2 star hotel/motel that punches above its star rating.
