The location is perfect, right near Duval street and all the tourist traps! For the price, this hotel needs to be updated and provide a better breakfast. We dealt with sugar ants during our stay and the room was questionable. This would be a great place to stay if the entire site, rooms and all, where updated. If you are looking for a place to rest your feet and is close to bars, this is it.

I'm in my 70s and I've traveled all over the world. This is definitely one of the three worst lodging experiences of my life (the worst was finding a tweaker passed out in front of my door in Detroit). When you take into account how expensive this room was, it may be the worst. Here's a litany of some of the problems we experienced. (1) The air conditioner was so loud, we only used it during the warmest part of the day. (2) some of the USB ports and the duplex plugs were inoperable. While this hotel boasts an ideal downtown location, the experience was unfortunately marred by poor management and hygiene. Service & Billing: The reception staff was inflexible and purely administrative. Following checkout, they failed to release my $150 deposit despite no charges being incurred. It took a month to resolve, and during that time, staff were unhelpful—blaming my bank and even hanging up on me during follow-up calls. Room Condition: The property is quite dilapidated. One star for a variety of reasons. The last time I stayed, not a great experience at all but decided to give it another try for an upcoming trip due to the fantastic location and the iconic Tipsy Rooster that I wanted to share with a friend that has never been to Key West. We were splitting the trip between 3 hotels, and when we had to reschedule our trip, the other 2 (much nicer, btw) had no problem issuing a refund for our deposit. In the past, we had always stayed on the Gulf end of Key West. This trip, for many reasons, we decided to stay near the Atlantic, and Southwinds was our choice. We could not have been more pleased with our week here. From the moment we stepped onto the property, we were treated with kindness and respect (thank you to the wonderful women in the front office!).
