We had a really disappointing experience at Roman Spa over Memorial Day weekend and ended up leaving shortly after arriving. First, the room was a huge letdown, especially for the price (~$600/night). We booked a family suite and it felt extremely outdated and poorly maintained — the fridge door was falling apart, there was foil on the oven, and the overall condition felt more like a worn 70s rental than a resort stay. Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort has been one of my absolute 'happy places' since 2019. I’ve been coming here for years, and the experience never disappoints. The highlight is definitely the warm geothermal pools—there is nothing like them for true relaxation. The rooms are consistently clean, the beds are incredibly comfy, and the location is perfect for enjoying everything Calistoga has to offer. This resort has everything we were looking for in a 2-hour getaway from the San Francisco Bay Area. The rooms are extremely comfortable with every amenity you can ask for. But, you don't want to spend all your time in your room when you have an inviting natural spring pool surrounded by beautiful fragrant gardens. The resort is convenient to the main street of Calistoga with restaurants and shops to fullfill every need. This is a place we plan to return to on a regular basis!

If I knew, how do you give half stars I would put 3.5 stars. I cannot speak on the hotel as my fiancé and I did not stay but made a day trip out for their Friday couple special of the mud baths and massage. This place was recommended by our family friend, though they had not been here in some time. This was also to be our very first mud bath experience, but not our first spa experience. Very disappointing that if you visit the spa and aren’t a hotel guest, they do not have amenities for showers after your mud bath service. There’s a pool for hotel guests that offers bathrooms with showers and full amenities like shampoo and conditioner and hair dryers. But this is off-limits to spa visitors. We were going to have a couples mud soak and then head to lunch in Calistoga after but I have to cancel now since there’s no way for us to get cleaned up after our spa appointment for lunch.
