We had a wonderful stay at the Ocean House at Bass Rocks. The ocean views are unbeatable, and the property is beautifully maintained. A special mention goes to the pool, hot tub, lawn chairs, and fire pit — they really added a lot of value to this small hotel. There's even a billiards room and a large selection of DVDs available to borrow and watch in your room. We originally had reservations in May: had to change them last minute to September, which the staff completed seamlessly. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable. Rooms were lovely overall; unfortunately sliding doors on both rooms badly swollen with dampness, essentially impossible to open. This was the only issue. Everything else was great, especially the views, and the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks 24 hours a day. The firepit was a fantastic bonus in September. Had high hopes so that’s on me. There was a great receptionist when we arrived, however the service was second rate after that. We requested a turn down service in the middle of our 5day stay and they didn’t change the sheets. They were less than accommodating with their towels. I do understand we were a 5 person party but we notified them of that. I was denied a late check out which is normal but the receptionist proceeded to laugh at me when I said I’d like to ask the manager. If you stay here it’s only for the view which ... read more

This hotel is rated at 4 stars, I would give it a 2 at best. Our room was not ready for an hour after check in time. We were told a manager had to check the room first. We were also told we would get 10% off our first night. That did not happen. The manager was not thorough as we found a pair of men's underwear on the floor when we opened the curtain! I wish I could write a more positive review, but overall our stay was disappointing. The hotel was in a good location (although there are no restaurants in walking distance) and the view was lovely, but unfortunately that is the best thing I have to say. For well over $400 per night, I was expecting more. The room was well decorated, but it didn't feel that clean. There was visible dust in the bathroom. There were spiders in the shower.
