This is a super cute boutique hotel on State street. Located in a prime location and walking distance to the wharf, shops, and dining. They offer courtesy golf cart service to downtown for shopping, dining, and even a movie theater! Great for couples and family. We even did movie on the roof top. The pool is on a smaller end, but perfect for small groups. I experienced their spa for a massage and it was fantastic.
Our stay has been absolutely wonderful. The surprise bottle of sparkling wine for my wife's birthday and personal note was next level and very appreciated. Santa Barbara has given us great memories and they started here at Hotel Californian. A big thank you to the full team from valet parking to front desk to nightly room service. Everyone has been amazing. We look forward to coming back.
Disappointing Experience for a $800+/Night Stay We recently stayed at Hotel Californian for six nights and were deeply disappointed, especially given the cost—over $800 per night even after a promotional discount. Despite booking through Amex with a guaranteed 4 PM checkout, we were repeatedly disturbed by three different staff members knocking on our door at various times starting around 11 AM, asking if we had already left. This review is more for unclear pricing and hidden fees. It was frustrating to learn that gratuity was included for massages. The resort fees and valet charges were also not mentioned or described upon check-in. Frustrating that a hotel of this quality would nickel and dime its customers without fully describing charges.
Really wonderful and attentive staff. Everything is spotless. Wonderful design - such a beautiful hotel. Great location for walking to everything. I only wish the price were a little less, or that it came with some free drinks at the hotel bar so I felt a little better about the amount we spent. Overall great for an anniversary weekend getaway.
